Dr. Siroos Mirzaei: The West decided that Khomeini had to come
Vienna, 10 May 2026 – Maria Theresa Square, 1010 Vienna
On Sunday, 10 May 2026, a gathering of Iranian activists and supportive allies took place at Maria Theresa Square in Vienna. The demonstration was united by the shared demand for the immediate end to executions in Iran, the release of political prisoners, and free and unrestricted access to the internet for the people of Iran.
Folgendes ist die Rede von Dr. Mirzaei über die damalige Situation im Iran, die Ereignisse von 1979 sowie die Rolle des Westens und dessen Entscheidung, Khomeini an die Macht zu bringen.
Prof. Dr. Siroos Mirzaei:

Happy Mother’s Day.
To all the women fighting on the front lines—first and foremost Fatemeh Sepehri. Fatemeh Sepehri, we are thinking of you.
I would like to especially thank the organizers today for choosing this beautiful location between two museums: to our right, the Kunsthistorisches Museum (Art History Museum), and to our left, the Naturhistorisches Museum (Natural History Museum). And I ask the question: Where do the Revolutionary Guards and the mullahs belong after the revolution, when it is over?
In the Art History Museum or in the Natural History Museum?
The monsters of the Islamic Republic regime belong in the Natural History Museum, in the section for monsters.
Dear friends, we cannot live only in the present; we can learn from “what if.” Where would we be today if, in 1950 or 1952, Mr. Mossadegh had behaved like a statesman and recognized the political intelligence and dedication of Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi? Where would we be today if Khomeini’s books and archives had not been banned? Then we could have read everything and known that this man was capable of nothing. Where would we be today if the West had not decided that the Shah had to go and that Khomeini should be installed?
Khomeini did not come on his own.
The revolution did not end up that way on its own.
The West decided that Khomeini had to come.
Western media supported Khomeini.
Those of my age remember how often the BBC broadcast interviews with Khomeini.
Khomeini was given a platform like hardly anyone else.
Let’s compare that with today. What are Western media doing now? If they conduct an interview with Reza Pahlavi at all, the questions are like: “What happened 30 years ago?” or “What happened 40 years ago?” One could just as well ask:
What happened in your countries 50 years ago?
What did Hitler do? What about Franco in Spain?
What about Mussolini in Italy?
Suddenly everyone is a human rights advocate, suddenly democracy is being praised—as if it had existed everywhere back then.
No, ladies and gentlemen, we will not allow these lies about us and our history to be spread.
We appreciate what the Pahlavis have done for Iran. And we know that Reza Shah Pahlavi is our only chance for democracy, for the well-being of the people, for an end to torture and executions, and for a secular government in Iran.
Long live Iran. Long live the Shah, Payandeh Iran.
